How is the information collected?
Participation in Leapfrog Hospital Insights is voluntary. Yet, many hospitals around the country already collect quality and safety information for accreditation, payment and other reasons.
To ease the burden on hospitals, the quality measures collected for Leapfrog Hospital Insights are measures already being collected by hospitals, either as part of the Joint Commission Core Measures reporting (an accreditation program) or through the voluntary Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey (the source for the Hospital Survey Ratings).
The efficiency measures are reported by hospitals through a Leapfrog-approved vendor, typically the same data vendor that supplies the Joint Commission data to Leapfrog. Because the five clinical areas are specific to adult patients only, children’s hospitals are not eligible to participate at this time.
Hospitals on their own can choose to participate in Leapfrog Hospital Insights. Health plans and employers can also ask hospitals to participate as a condition for doing business with them. Leapfrog Hospital Insights was developed in June 2006. In July 2007, Leapfrog will make the hospital ratings available for consumers to use in their hospital choices. Over time, Leapfrog expects more hospitals to participate in Leapfrog Hospital Insights as hospitals seek to meet the expectations of consumers and other health care purchasers.
A note about information accuracy Hospitals affirm the accuracy of their responses when they submit their data. If you have any questions about the information, please contact the hospital. The Leapfrog Group does not independently verify the accuracy of the information. If you are aware of any discrepancies in how the data are posted on the site, please contact us.
