Leapfrog aims to make more comparative information on health care quality available to consumers through its Pursuit of Comparative Excellence leap. This leap is currently under development. The Pursuit of Comparative Excellence will apply to both the physician and hospital level and will assess providers’ participation and performance in comparative measurement programs relevant to their area of practice and that disclose their scores publicly. To implement the leap, the performance measurement programs in which providers participate must be endorsed by both The Leapfrog Group and The National Quality Forum. Even if providers score poorly, they may earn partial credit for substantial improvement or participating in a program with robust improvement activities.
