Leapfrog scores urban acute care general hospitals out of a total score of 1000. Some of the 27 safe practices are given more points than others as they are considered more important to the level of quality. Hospital’s overall scores are then ranked by quartiles.  Each quartile is then shown as the circles you see on our results pages.
