Hospital Recognition Program

The Leapfrog Group is proud to offer the Leapfrog Hospital Recognition Program (LHRP) to help health plans recognize and reward hospitals that demonstrate excellence or improvement in the performance areas of patient safety, quality, and resource utilization.

Leapfrog's value-based purchasing program uses the data captured in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey to evaluate hospital performance within the standardized, national measure set, composed of quality and resource utilization measures. These measures are weighted and rolled up into an overall value score which is used to determine recognition and rewards levels.

LHRP’s program principles are closely aligned with the Center for Medicare & Medicaid’s forthcoming program, and is ready for rapid implementation now

UNIQUE PROGRAM FEATURES

• Developed by a national steering committee of health economists, actuaries, hospitals, health plans, leading employers, government entities, researchers and academics
• Minimal hospital burden for participation - uses a single data collection and reporting source
• Based on an evidence-based, nationally standardized measure set that includes health-care acquired-conditions, medication errors, and eight high-risk procedures, among others
• Calculates an overall Value score for each hospital which accounts for quality and resource use
• Flexible so payors can customize certain program components such as eligibility and payments

For hospitals, participating in LHRP is easy: hospitals are only required to complete the Leapfrog Hospital Survey on an annual basis. The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is FREE for Hospitals.
