Why did your organization decide to apply to become a Leapfrog Regional Roll-Out leader?

General Motors is one of the founding organizations in the Michigan Health and Safety Coalition (MH&SC), which was initiated in 2000 to improve the quality of care in Michigan by focusing on cost-effective patient safety improvements across all settings of care. GM is also a founding frog in Leapfrog. Goals for this roll out are to continue to maintain and improve the excellent hospital response to the annual combined MH&SC/Leapfrog hospital survey.

State/Local government activities:

a. At the request of the governor, the MH&SC coalition was asked to serve as the State Commission on Patient Safety (under PA 119-04) with the charge to examine ways to improve patient safety in the State of Michigan. Report delivered to governor 11/05.
b. Michigan Health Information Network stakeholder meeting in 12/05 kicked off a statewide effort to bring stakeholders together to develop approaches to increased adoption of health care information technology. MHIN in supported by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Department of Information Technology, as well as Jennifer Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan.
