CIGNA to use Data from Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program data nationally

CIGNA HealthCare will use hospital performance information generated by the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program™ (LHRP) in its Centers of Excellence Hospital Value Profile program. 

This program supports the growing consumer demand for information on hospital outcomes and efficiency for specific diagnoses and procedures. Through this program, participating hospitals will have both a patient-outcomes and cost-efficiency score for several procedures/conditions.  For more information see http://www.cigna.com/health/provider/medical/pdf_coe.pdf.

Hospitals can improve their Hospital Value Profile through their performance on the LHRP efficiency measures.  “CIGNA has wanted to incorporate re-admission data in our consumer education tool and we’re delighted the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program™ has a data collection mechanism to fill this need” says Jeff Kang, chief medical officer at CIGNA. “We encourage hospitals nationwide to report information to this new Program”.
