View the Proposed Changes to the 2008 Hospital Quality and Safety Survey
Each year, the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey undergoes modifications to reflect new learning about quality and safety measures and the best way to structure the Survey instrument. The Leapfrog Group has designed the 2008 Survey to lessen the burden of reporting for hospitals and to incorporate the latest research on measures that have the greatest impact on saving costs and improving quality.
Thank you to those of you who submitted comments on our proposed 2008 Survey changes. The comment period for the 2008 Survey is now closed, but you can still view the proposed changes below. Highlights include:
-
A CPOE evaluation tool that will allow hospitals to assess the decision support of their CPOE system;
-
A significantly streamlined NQF Safe Practices section;
-
A new “Common Acute Conditions” section that will measure quality of care for pneumonia and heart attack (AMI) patients;
-
Reporting on efficiency of care for CABG, PCI, pneumonia and AMI patients; and
-
Reporting on two hospital acquired conditions that CMS has identified as conditions they will no longer pay for in 2008.

2008 Survey and its Impact on the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program
The 2008 Survey will incorporate important components of the Leapfrog Hospital Insights (LHI) measures, such as efficiency measures. We are revamping the Leapfrog Hospital Rewards Program (LHRP) to be based solely on results from the 2008 Survey, so the LHI measure set will no longer exist on its own.
Assistance from core measure data vendors will no longer be required for participating in the rewards program. We are grateful to these vendors at the cutting edge of health care quality and safety who have helped hospitals participate in LHI and LHRP over the past few years. We wish to thank the following vendors for their hard work and dedication to our programs:
