New Guide for Hospitals on Computerized Physician Order Entery (CPOE) Gives Hospitals Much Needed Resource

- You are about to view Computerized Physician Order Entry: A Look at the Vendor Marketplace and Getting Started. Please read the following about the purpose and use of the information in the report:
-
This report focuses on clinical decision support (CDS) tools in computerized physician order entry (CPOE) applications for the hospital. CDS tools are just one of many important factors to consider in selecting a solution for your hospital. Look to Chapter 5 (pages 20-26) for an overview of the many other considerations and suggested issues for hospitals to explore.
-
This report contains a very limited amount of information about vendors. The information on installed sites was obtained from the vendors directly. Information on software capabilities was obtained by reviewing demonstrations of vendors' systems. The purpose of the report is to help hospitals understand what vendors are in the CPOE marketplace. This information could be useful to hospitals as they start a search for a CPOE solution. It in no way covers the necessary detail to substitute for a careful exploration of a hospital's environment, objectives, available software, and the experience of other hospitals who have implemented these solutions.
-
Given the enormous interest in CPOE right now, the marketplace is evolving very rapidly. Since this information was collected, vendors have released new software and implemented their product in more hospitals. Look to the vendors and their customers for updates-most have new information to report since August 2001 when this information was collected.
