Transparency Indicator Leapfrog’s Hospital Quality and Safety Survey asks hospitals if they participate in other national or regional patient safety and quality public reporting initiatives. Leapfrog’s Transparency Indicator gives hospitals recognition for these other efforts to measure, monitor and report their performance related to patient safety and quality of care within their institution to the public in an easily accessible web-based comparative report. Website Criteria The Leapfrog Group has identified nine requirements for a website to be approved for qualification in the Leapfrog Group Transparency Indicator program. The criteria for a website to be included on the approved list are as follows: 1) It must be a public website that does not require a login, a membership, or any fees. 2) The content of the website must focus on information about hospitals. 3) The data on the website needs to be directly submitted by the hosptial; data can not be taken from secondary sources. 4) The data must be available on the website itself (i.e. not a link to a PDF file). This requires the website to be interactive. 5) The website must not be owned by a hospital or health system. 6) The data available on the website must be current data (within the last 3 years). 7) The website must provide comparative information, allowing consumers the opportunity to compare one hospital's data against another hospital's data. 8) The data reported on the website must be focused on consumers, although the data could also serve other stakeholders. 9) The website must be listed in the AHRQ Compendium.
Display of Results The Leapfrog Group will report the results of their Transparency Indicator Program as follows: 1) Consumers can choose to filter survey results by State, City, Zip code, or Hospital name. 2) The survey results are displayed in a grid format, with a designated column for "Transparency Indicator". 3) If the hospital identified in the survey that they report to at least one of the approved programs, a magnifying glass icon will appear in the "Transparency Indicator" column for that hospital. 4) Clicking on the magnifying glass icon will bring up another window which will list all of the approved programs to which the hospital reports.
