Summary

Founded in 2000, Leapfrog is the nation’s leading voice for health care transparency as the key to galvanizing major improvements in patient care.
We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Vice President of External Affairs, reporting to the CEO and serving on the senior leadership team. This position will lead organizational communications, marketing, policy advocacy, and constituent engagement.
The successful candidate will have a record of achievement and a passionate belief in the importance of patient safety and health care transparency. You understand effective team building, persuasive communications, community building, nonprofit development, and marketing. You bring a strong track record of proven effective leadership, and top notch communication skills. You are comfortable working with a small, flexible, powerful team that accomplishes amazing things.
Responsibilities
1. Lead communications strategy and implementation
- Develop and execute an effective strategy for persuasive positioning of Leapfrog and advancement of its priority goals
- Lead the team and outside PR firm handling media relations
- Serve as the organization’s spokesperson when appropriate
- Oversee organization’s websites and social media
- Serve as the key point person assuring consistent messaging throughout the organization
- Navigate the organization through public communication during unexpected situations and events
2. Oversee marketing for revenue-generating activities
- Develop a strategic approach to marketing key revenue-generating programs including industry support and licensure of ratings data
- Build a team to execute the strategy
3. Direct Leapfrog’s multifaceted constituent activities
- Lead the team to develop strong and effective relationships with regional business health coalitions, employers and purchasers, and consumer advocates to increase hospital participation and performance on Leapfrog’s Surveys and Hospital Safety Grade
- Assure engagement and support from Leapfrog’s membership of industry leaders and other supporters, purchasers, business coalitions, and industry partners
- Grow relationships with aligned national organizations
- Oversee policy advocacy strategies
4. Lead and grow an effective team
- Lead the team to achieve Leapfrog’s strategic goals with communication, marketing, and constituent engagement
- Effectively participate in organization-wide collaborations with internal and external stakeholders
5. Serve on the organization’s senior leadership team
- Work with the CEO, contributing to all facets of strategic planning, budgeting, HR policy, and constituent relations
- Represent Leapfrog at key boards, advisory committees, and conferences as needed
Requirements
Full-time position based in the Washington, DC, office. Candidates should have 10+ years of experience with proven accomplishments in team leadership, communications, and constituency building. Marketing experience is a plus. Experience with and knowledge of health care is a plus.
