Pandemic Heroes Award

September 24, 2020

This year, Leapfrog has a unique opportunity to honor those who have responded in a heroic way to the COVID-19 pandemic, including individuals and teams that are part of the health care workforce as well as employers and purchasers. As part of its 2020 Annual Meeting, to be held virtually, Leapfrog will be honoring these leaders from across the country.

Health Care Worker Pandemic Heroes

These heroes have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to patient safety amidst the COVID-19 crisis. Health care workers and facility leadership are the fiber of America’s health care system, which has never been more evident than now. The pandemic reminds us all how much we depend on their courage and caring at our most vulnerable moments. Leapfrog invites hospitals and surgery centers to nominate individuals or teams within their facility who have gone above and beyond to ensure safe, high-quality, high-value health care. Nominees can include, though are not limited to, nurses, doctors, pharmacists, nursing assistants, housekeeping, dietary services, medical assistants, technicians, environmental services, quality directors, board members and more—any who provide and/or impact direct care.

Submissions should be made via narrative response (1,000 word maximum) or video (60-120 seconds in length). Professional-quality video is not expected or required. Health care workers and leaders may self-nominate or have a nomination submitted on their behalf.

Applications should demonstrate:

  • Approach to ensuring patient safety amidst COVID-19
  • How patients’ and/or families’ experience was improved as a result of the hero’s commitment
  • How other health care workers and facility administrators were positively impacted as a result of the individual’s or team’s efforts

Employer Pandemic Heroes

Leapfrog is also pleased to have the opportunity to recognize Employer Pandemic Heroes that have shown exemplary leadership in ensuring the health and well-being of their employees as well as those that have extended resources to the health care workforce during the pandemic. Leapfrog invites nominees who have extended themselves beyond their standard business operations to support their employees with innovative health care services and benefits. Additionally, we are looking to recognize employers who have demonstrated a commitment to the health care workforce in their community and nationwide in their pandemic response.

Submissions should be made via narrative response (1,000 word maximum) or video (60-120 seconds in length). Professional-quality video is not expected or required. Companies, not individuals, will be recognized. Company representatives may self-nominate or have a nomination submitted on their behalf.

Applications should demonstrate:

  • Actions taken to support the employee workforce and/or actions to support the health care workforce
  • Thought process and strategy that led to the above action
  • How employees were positively impacted as a result of the company’s efforts

Our respect for the priceless role of health care in American life is why Leapfrog cares so deeply about quality and safety. We look forward to the opportunity to honor the heroes that have arisen during this time.

The application for Leapfrog's Pandemic Heroes Award is now closed. Winners will be announced at Leapfrog's Annual Meeting on December 8.
