Hamburg, Germany – Statista today announced joining forces with The Leapfrog Group in a formal collaboration. Through this initiative Statista Healthcare, the specialized unit of Statista for quality transparency and data-driven transformation in global healthcare, will integrate selected, validated patient safety indicators from The Leapfrog Group into the U.S. list of the internationally recognized ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ and other healthcare provider rankings by Statista and Newsweek.

The Leapfrog Group is one of the most respected sources for patient safety data in the United States, known for its independence and methodological integrity. By incorporating selected Leapfrog indicators, Statista strengthens the evidentiary foundation of its rankings while fully maintaining its own independent methodology.

“Leapfrog has set a leading standard for validated patient safety data in the United States. Integrating their data into our ranking frameworks helps us further strengthen evidence-based assessment in healthcare for institutions and patients alike,” said Matthias Hirsch, Vice President of Statista Healthcare.

Hirsch added, “With both organizations committed to independence, methodological rigor, transparency, and evidence-based healthcare assessment, the collaboration builds on a strong foundation of shared values.”

“For a quarter-century, Leapfrog has championed hospital transparency because it gives the public critical information and motivates hospitals to improve. That has saved more lives than we will ever know. We are pleased to work with Statista and their brilliant data analytics team to add insights from our data to Statista’s and Newsweek’s US healthcare provider rankings. Together we can shine new light on the hospitals that are doing an outstanding job protecting their patients from medical errors, accidents and infections,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO, The Leapfrog Group.

The collaboration is implemented through a Data Use Agreement that allows Statista to integrate specific Leapfrog patient safety ratings within its independent ranking methodologies. The first outputs of the collaboration will be incorporated into the evaluation of the next annual edition of the ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ ranking. Both partners are also exploring potential longer-term opportunities that may support broader insights into patient safety and quality.
