Each year, The Leapfrog Group gathers its key stakeholders and constituents for a meeting in December to discuss current topics, issues, and trends in purchasing, benefits, and health care quality.
The 2024 Leapfrog Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at The Gaylord Hotel's Riverview Ballroom in National Harbor, DC.
This year's theme, "Patients Come First," acknowledges the mountains patients must climb in their health care journeys. Together we can help smooth their path, elevate their experience and keep them safe.
The keynote of this year's Leapfrog Annual Meeting is Colonel Steven L. Coffee, Founding Member of Patients for Patient Safety US. Colonel Coffee has been an active patient safety advocate for the last decade. He co-founded the United States chapter of the World Health Organization’s Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) initiative and is an active member of Leapfrog's Patient and Family Caregiver Expert Panel.
The speaker on this year's theme: Patients Come First is David Goldhill, Founder and CEO of Sesame. After writing "How American Healthcare Killed My Father" and "Catastrophic Care: Why Everything We Think We Know About Health Care Is Wrong," David founded Sesame, a company that is revolutionizing health care with a direct-pay marketplace that delivers high-quality, half-priced care. David is also chairman emeritus of The Leapfrog Group. Prior to reinventing a third of the U.S. economy, David served as President and CEO of the Game Show Network and President of TV at Universal Studios.
We hope you'll save the date to join us!

Panel on the Value of Doula Care in Maternal Health
Doulas play a crucial role in maternity care by providing emotional, physical and informational support to pregnant people before, during and after labor and birth. As non-clinical, trained health care workers, they offer a unique form of care that complements traditional medical services. Research shows that doula-supported births lead to better maternal and infant health outcomes, including lower cesarean and preterm birth rates. Importantly, doula care addresses racial inequities in maternity care, helping to close the gap for communities of color while improving overall effectiveness, quality and cost-efficiency. This panel will bring together providers, purchasers and patients to discuss the impact of doulas on maternal outcomes, the cost-effectiveness of incorporating doulas into maternity care and the role they play in improving health equity.
Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes Panel
The Leapfrog Group, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), has entered the second year of its Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes program. This groundbreaking initiative is the first of its kind to nationally recognize hospitals that provide exceptional care for people living with diabetes. In this panel, you will learn from the experts who were the driving force behind the program's development, one of our Recognized Leaders, and hear directly from a patient who is personally affected.
Poster Session
For the first time, The Leapfrog Group will host a poster session during its 2024 Annual Meeting on December. This is an opportunity for hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to share case studies directly tied to meeting the Leapfrog Hospital and ASC Survey Standards on:
- Patient Rights and Ethics (billing ethics, health care equity, informed consent, and never events)
- Surgical Safety and Quality (facility and surgeon volume standards, safe surgery checklist implementation, patient experience)
- Specialty Care (maternity care, pediatric care, critical care)
- Patient Safety (medication safety, NQF Safe Practices, hand hygiene, healthcare-associated infections, nurse staffing and skill mix).
Presenters will have their work prominently displayed among attendees and will allow best practice sharing that will create real change in the U.S. health care system. Leapfrog will offer one complimentary registration to our Annual Meeting per accepted poster and the two top posters will be given awards.
